How are Handicaps Calculated?

If one has entered 20 or more games, the lowest 10 differentials of the last 20 games must be used.

If one has played less than 20 games, the following table applies:-

Rounds Entered
No of Differentials Used
5
1 lowest
6-7
2 lowest
8-9
4 lowest
10-11
5 lowest
12-13
6 lowest
14-15
7 lowest
16-17
8 lowest
18-19
9 lowest
20
10 lowest

For example:-

If one has played only 3 games, just 1, the lowest differential, must be used.
If one has entered 15 games, only the lowest 7 differentials are taken into account.
The maximum handicap one can have is 36.

Please note !

Some competitions and/or clubs will insist on lower maximums, say 29 for Ladies, 24 for Men.
The Golfers Card Handicapping system will only start registering handicaps once 5 games have been played.

NEW SAGA rule 9.2.2 Interim Revisions

A player's handicap shall be recomputed each time a player achieves a net score of 3 less than Par for the course or better. For a course with a standard Par of 72, this figure would be 69 net or lower.

The handicap to be used to calculate a net score shall always be the player's full handicap, irrespective of the format of competition.

If the calculation results in a lower handicap, such handicap shall become effective immediately. If the calculation results in a higher handicap, no change in handicap shall be made.
